Edwardian 9ct Gold Pale Blue Topaz Spectacle-Set Necklace

A rare and exquisitely crafted Edwardian to early Art Deco pale blue topaz spectacle-set necklace, dating to c.1910–1920. This elegant piece features a continuous line of round pale-blue topaz stones, each individually spectacle-set in fine 9ct yellow gold and linked to create a luminous chain of colour and light.

Spectacle-set jewellery of this calibre is increasingly scarce, particularly when set with gemstones other than rock crystal or paste. The soft pastel blue topaz, hand-cut with early 20th-century proportions, allows light to move beautifully through each stone, giving the necklace its characteristic Edwardian delicacy.

The necklace closes with its original hand-made gold barrel clasp, a hallmark of high-quality construction during this period. As is typical of hand-linked antique chains, the links on one side are marginally shorter, resulting in the clasp sitting slightly off-centre when worn. This is not a flaw but a normal characteristic of period craftsmanship and confirms its authenticity.
