Edwardian 9ct Yellow Gold Amethyst Drop Earrings
An elegant pair of Edwardian 9ct yellow gold drop earrings, later adapted with 1992 hallmarked hooks for modern wear. Each earring features a vivid oval brilliant-cut amethyst, claw-set in an ornate openwork scroll frame with foliate accents, a design strongly associated with the refined feminine style of the Edwardian period. The natural amethysts are beautifully cut to maximise light reflection and sparkle, their rich purple hue contrasting with the warm gold tone.
The reverse of each frame is stamped “9CT”, typical of pre-1932 British gold jewellery, confirming their early 20th-century origin. The articulated ear wires, hallmarked for Sheffield 1992 with the sponsor’s mark G&TJ, were likely added to restore wearability. A graceful and wearable piece of antique jewellery, blending period charm with practical contemporary fittings.
