Victorian 18ct Gold Split Pearl and Diamond Crescent Moon Star Pendant
A beautifully detailed Victorian 18ct gold crescent moon and star pendant, dating to around 1890 and attributed to Saunders & Shepherd. This elegant celestial design is set with thirty-three split pearls and a central old-cut diamond to the star, creating the classic Victorian night-sky motif so sought after in antique jewellery.
The crescent is richly decorated with graduated split pearls and fine beadwork, with the star suspended within the centre for a light, open design. The warm tone of the gold complements the soft lustre of the pearls and the bright sparkle of the diamond. Celestial jewellery was highly fashionable in the Victorian period, symbolising guidance, love and aspiration, and remains especially desirable today for its romantic symbolism and timeless wearability.
This pendant has been repurposed from a brooch, which is not uncommon for pieces of this period, allowing it to be worn more easily today as a pendant. There is otherwise no damage or repair noted, and all stones remain present. A particularly attractive and collectible late 19th-century jewel, ideal for lovers of antique Victorian jewellery, celestial motifs, and fine historic gold pieces.
